Dark Red Spot
Good afternoon,
about 20 days ago, I woke up and immediately started scratching the cleavage area due to it itching. The following day, a dark red spot appeared which looked like it had tiny bumps on it. 3 days later, I went to Dr. and was prescribed 5days antibiotic and and antibiotic cream.
the itching went away but the spot remains . I followed up 2 days ago and was given a steroid cream and it is doing absolutely nothing. seems like it is even more red. I only have this one spot ( which is sore if I press on it) and no other rashes. I was also referred to a dermatologis which Is not available until DEC... Does this seem like something I need to be very concerned about? Please, any feedback will ease my mind a bit.
Thank you kindly,

"cleavage area"
Is it on the skin on one of your breasts or is it affecting the skin between your breasts, over the sternum?
-
the red mark is on the very edge of the breast very close to the sternum. It is dark red and seems to have a shiny like covering . in some lights, tiny raised dots can be seen.
-
please, anyone have any input or suggestions? I'm a little scared. I have no swelling but it was quite painful last night .
-
Hmm this definitely sounds like more of a dermatological issue to me than a breast related issue. Do you have any similar patches like that anywhere else on your body? The description is reminding me of some kind of eczema or psoriasis. Can you see if you can get referred to a different dermatologist so you can get in sooner? December seems like a really long time, I'd probably look around for someone else if possible.
-
thank you for answering. No, that is the only spot!! I am trying to be seen sooner but it's a bit difficult. Not sure If eczema or psoriasis hurts but it is starting to hurt a bit.
-
I agree that it seems like a dermatology issue. I'm wondering if it may be shingles. Have you had a fever? Shingles are painful. Hope you can see a doctor soon. Try not to worry. Easier said than done - I know.
-
another idea is to go to an urgent care facility or walk in clinic - is that an option
-
I did go to urgent care where they treated me for impetigo . ( Amox 125 mil and a cream) no change. Then returned to doctor and was prescribed triamcinolone acetonide cream and no change. Last night was painful and now my under arm is swollen (big) on right side( other side where sore is)
Now I'm REALLY scared and don't know if I should go back to reg Dr. Or ER.
I just know that if I go back to gen Dr, I will be sent for a breast exam which who knows when I'll be seen.
Had my last mammogram in Oct ( all ok)
I'm so worried now with my underarm swelling
-
The underarm swelling is likely due to swollen lymph nodes fighting off an infection (which this could very well be). Of course, no one here is a doctor so this is all just speculation at this point. How long ago was it that you went to Urgent Care? I'd give it another day or two and if things don't improve or worsen, going back to Urgent Care would be a safe bet. You don't mention how old you are, but the good news is odds are in your favor as far as this not being BC related. Best of luck and hope you find answers soon!
-
thank you pva034 for your response. I went 3 days ago to UC. I am 48 years old . Just curious why the odds would not be in my favor. ( hopefully that's the case
I appreciate your time
-
also, the sore appeared 23 days ago . No spreading and no change with medication except a bit painful lastnight
-
22 days ago, red spot appeared
18 days ago UC - antibiotics and cream
3 days ago new steroid cream
-
Oh no! I'm sorry if you misunderstood, I meant the odds ARE in your favor
-
Eek, I'm sorry pva034.. I misread that!
sorry
-
instead of an urgent care facility, maybe try going to the emergency room at a hospital if you really can't get in to see your doctor
-
Sure sounds like an insect bite (spider?) or sebaceous cyst (super-zit) gone rogue, maybe even become cellulitis. Scratching may have introduced bacteria already colonized on your skin (we all have colonies to some degree). No joke. You definitely need to be seen at an ER and have it biopsied/cultured. Be prepared for some more powerful antibiotics, perhaps I.V. Hope it heals.
-
Thank you for your replies. I think I will make the trip to the ER. I am only getting worse as the days go by. The "red mark" has not disappeared and now my breasts are getting heavier and my under arm discomfort is worse. It's tolerable but there is something not right!
The soreness in my breasts wakes me up at night. I'm getting nervous too..

Did did you ever find out the problem? I have very similar symptoms
