BMX no chemo? Will it come back without it?
I am having Bilateral MX on Monday (3 days). I was misdiagnosed in March, again in April and finally with a second opinion of the pathology, rediagnosed with triple negative... very small amount of invasive. Total DCIS was about .45cm, and total invasive about .2cm. So, I was very lucky that it was found at all. Because of family history (I'm the 9th occurance on my dad's side), I'm choosing to do the full bilateral. They will then FINALLY test the nodes, so that is all a big question mark. But assuming nothing is found, they say "no chemo likely". At any rate, I'm wondering if anyone still chose chemo? Just to be sure? And did anyone who did a bilateral, with no node involvement and not choose chemo... did it come back somehow? I'm pretty sure they'll still tell me chemo is an option that is up to me (sometimes I think they give us too many choices).

Hi,
This is still new to me. I'm having surgery on Tues for BMX also. Are you doing reconstruction if I may ask? I'm still on the fence with that and wondering if I'd cancel that the last min. I'm sure someone will correct me when if I'm wrong. If there is IDC found I'd assume they would sent it out for the Oncotype and then you'd have a clearer picture if chemo would be of benefit or not and that could help you decide then if its an option(depending on what else they may or may not find, node status and Oncotype). Thats how I was told mine would go.
Good luck!

did you give onco type resting done? That is a very useful tool to determine if chemo will be helpful. This link might also help you understand standard treatment protocol.

As far as I know, Oncotype is done for hormone positive tumours so Marymac does not meet the criteria as hers is triple negative.
Eric P. Winer of Dana Farber wrote an article on smll triple negative tumours, maybe that helps with your decision.

i would live to read this article but it won't se to allow me to create a user ID. I tried twice.
The invasive portion in the second opinion on slides taken from the lumpectomy were so small they as d to be tested with some special test called theFISH method. I had the mx today and husband was told that nodes were negative however the were enlarged and swollen something they weren't expecting. In the meantime the CT scan said possible metastatis on the ribs can but that was subsequently riled out by a rib x-ray. They also found a very small nodule on the lungs.. Inconsequential. So I'm not sure what it all means for chemo. Apparently I am very odd because no Tests have agreed with any other tests. My mx went ok otherwuse. They tranaferres the nipple but it's looking very gray..She is concerned...
Thanks for the link and I will keep trying to register.

Just google the headline and you will find this article in another magazine without registration

marymac, here is a link that isn't behind a paywall. It isn't the actual journal article, but an article about the study:
But through a link in the article, I found the actual full study link here:

Good luck!
