Will I need help?

I've decided to have my radiation treatment at MDA, so I'm moving to Houston for 6 weeks. Hubby and I are trying to decide if the kids (and my mom) should stay with him and I do treatment solo, or if my mom and kiddos should be with me. Kids will be missing preschool and will be with my mom and me 100% of the time if in Houston (when I'm not in treatment), staying in a small apartment (so not ideal). Will I need help? I'm young and healthy other than the cancer diagnosis. Should we just see how the first week goes and then decide? (Hubby and kids will be with me the first week, but he couldn't take more time off)

I live in Houston and I understand how you feel. I'm also going for treatments in the Texas Med Center in HM. I would recommend to go for a week with your husband and kids, while you are there, there will be social workers/case managers that can help you out regarding this. What we go through is a lot and having help that is available is good to use for your benefit. So when you go to your first appointment, ask to be seen by a social worker to work on this issues. There are programs available that can help you as well particularly when moving for treatment as well as organizations that can help. MDA has all of those as well. I wish you the best and stay strong!
