I completed 30/30 rads on 29th April 2017.

During and after rads my breast was very sore, red/brown and I had a fair bit of dead skin loss. All to be expected.

I used sweet almond oil and a steroid cream which helped a lot.

The problem is my breast is hugely bigger than the other breast and my nipple is still very large in diameter and the top is a very dark brown crust. No skin just a thick scabby texture.

About 5 or 6 weeks ago I accidentally knocked this nipple and a section of the scab lifted off. It hurt and I didn't know what to do so I've been living with a plaster on it since!

I'm not due to see my onc' for another 3.5 weeks but it is really worrying me.

Also the breast feels warmer than the other one too.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I did wonder if it could be that.

My husband is going to make an appointment for us as soon as he knows when he can get a day off work.

We live in Turkey and I don't speak Turkush well enough to go alone so I awlways have to wait until my husband can come with me.

I finished rads in February and still have a crust over my nipple too, very similar to what you describe. My breast is also larger but not warmer.

Does the spot you knocked off still hurt? Is the skin irritated and does it look infected? Do you have a fever?

You can certainly call to be evaluated...the great thing with an RO is a nurse can probably see you immediately at any time I imagine and they can triage a problem. If your skin is just irritated, they might have you put something on it.

When my peeling crust has looked unsettling, I have put Vaseline on it, and then tucked nonstick gauze in my bra, but I have not had any suspicion of infection.

I can't easily visit my RO as that hospital is 4 hours away but my MO is only 1 hour. As far as I know my husband was trying to get an appointment earlier but I've not heard from him yet.

The whole area is quite tender and throbs. When I change the plasters there is sometimes evidence of a bit of weeping on the plaster padding.

Did you have yours looked at gb2115?

I've got an appointment with my MO for Thursday morning so hopefully I'll get this sorted out.

No I haven't had it looked at because it's really just peeling skin that doesn't hurt. I feel like a snake shedding skin. Yeah if you are tender and throbbing you need to be evaluated! Glad you have an appointment!!

So my MO sent me for an ultrasound to makw sure nothing sinister was going on inside - all clear. The US technician said that the swelling could take up to a year to subside so I just need to wait.

I then saw my SO about the nipple who said something about necrosis and sent me along to see the plastic surgeon for his opinion.

He didn't (I don't think) give a diagnosis, he just gave me an antiseptic cicatrisizing cream to use a minimum of twicw a day and told me to go back to him if there's a lot of weeping or inflammation.

Since starting with the cream the nipple scab/sore seems to be throbbing more. I'm hoping that's a sign that it's working.....maybe?
