Red Rash on DCIS or IBC?
Dear IBC Forum,
My name is Benito Simatupang living in Indonesia. My mother was diagnosed to have a cancer after she went for mammogram and USG checks. The first Doctor/Oncologist said she had an aggressive cancer, so 2 weeks after the diagnose my mother went for biopsy. After 3 weeks the Pathology Anatomy result says that my mother has DCIS. I just learn from internet that DCIS is not an aggressive cancer. Even after read this PA the first Doctor/Oncologist still gave my mother Chemotherapy drugs for 2 weeks to wait the result of the IHC.
So as this confused me between the DCIS and chemotherapy drugs I took my mother to second Doctor/Oncologist with the PA and the IHC results. Here, after reading the PA and IHC results the second Doctor said that my mother has a DCIS and he told us that means she is between stage 0 to stage 1 cancer and grade 2. And that the cancer is not aggressive. So he recommends my mother to do mastectomy to her right breast. After mastectomy on 13th of February 2017, the doctor gave my mother Femara drugs (even he thought this might not necessary..) to be taken every day for 5 years.
Around 5-6th of June 2017 my mother had like rash red color in her right arm, under right armpit and some places to her right chest/breast (where the mastectomy was done) and she also felt a little headache and a fever for 1 day or 2. She planned to go to her second Doctor/Oncologist, but after around a week the rash was gone so she did not go to her doctor. Last week around 19-20th of July, the red rash looks the same as 1.5 months ago came back to my mother with little less area in her right arm and under her right armpit and her right chest/breast. This time she went to her second Doctor/Oncologist, and he said that this red rash is nothing to do with her previous DCIS breast cancer as DCIS only stayed in site and cannot be metastases and referral her to Dermatologist. She went to see Dermatologist and he said this is not skin disease and "might" be "cancer recurrence", so he suggests if the red rash comes back for the 3rd time he suggests to do biopsy.
My questions are, what is this red rash? Is it possible from DCIS, my mother has a recurrence cancer only 4-5 months after mastectomy? Or if it is skin cancer (as I read from the internet), is it possible if my mother get this skin cancer from metastases? As I read from the internet that the skin cancer is possible to get if the patient has an Inflammatory Breast Cancer, do you think DCIS result of my mother was a wrong result? What is the different between the Inflammatory Breast Cancer with DCIS? Is IBC a stage 3A cancer?.
If everyone has /has heard/ known/ experts on this, could you please pleaseee answer to my questions? so if any necessary things we can do more to find what this red rash is, I will do it for my mother. Beside I am now working offshore Norway far away from home in Indonesia. I am very sad, I can just call my mother so I really want to know what the red rash is. I would like to send you my mother's pictures with the red rash so it can describe better, but I cannot attach the pictures here.
Thank you very much for your reply. I appreciate it very much.
I am looking forward to your replies/explanations/suggestions.
Best regards,
Benito SimatupangCategories
