Lung Cancer after Radiation

Options

Hi all,

I am feeling very conflicted after a meeting with my radiation oncologist for the first time today. I had a lumpectomy one month ago for DCIS stage zero and it was successful. Next steps in my mind included both Tamoxifen and radiation to take all precautions available. She actually said there was no wrong decision but she was leaning towards no radiation, just Tamoxifen. I am 43 years old, and one of the major reasons was the risk of future cancers such as lung and breast again. Being that I am so "young", she thought the risks were too close to the benefits and suggested just Tamoxifen. Now I am really confused and don't know what to do. I could take Tamoxifen and not be able to tolerate it and then miss my radiation window. Curious what others doctors have shared regarding possible lung cancer? Any thoughts and experiences are welcomed.....thanks!

    Hi Cheryl,

Maybe you can get a second opinion from another radiologist? If they both say the same your decision will be easier.

Also, you didn't fill in your profile, so we don't know how large your DCIS was and the tumor characteristics.

    Good luck!
