Has anyone had their nerves reattached during DIEP reconstruction? Clinical word is Microneurorrhaphy. This seems like an encouraging development. Please let me know which BS/PS do this. I have heard of one PS at Stanford that is doing it (friend of friend), and PRMA in TX notes that they do it with DIEP. Thanks in advance.

Hello kimred. I have had DIEP flap breast reconstruction with, Microneurorrhaphy by Dr. Minas Chrysopoulo at PRMA in San Antonio. The other surgeons he works with perform this procedure as well. It can is done at the time of DIEP flap. The sensation in my breasts is not the same as before my double mastectomy when the nerves are initially cut but the sensory nerve re-connection during DIEP to the newly reconstructed breasts gives you a new and very definite sensation and I'm happy to have feeling back. Not all PS perform this procedure but they do at PRMA. Hope this helps.
