New Members Forum?
I brought up this idea on another thread, and others seemed to like it. The concept is that this Forum would be a place, maybe even pinned to the top, where newbies could gather to get information and support. I know there is a non-response thread providing info about rules etc., but we all doubt that many newbies are aware of that place initially (I definitely was not). Anyway, Mods, others, what do you think?

I am not sure I like the idea and here is why.
The discussion so far has focused on forums, however breastcancer.org has a wealth of information published about different bc types, treatments and more that every new user should browse through - ideally, before going to forums. I bet half of the questions would be answered if people read the articles published on the main breast cancer.org site. And the info published on the main site is usually scientifically correct and mostly up-to-date. In other words, it is quite reliable.
In many cases, new members post questions because the answers they got from the main site or googling do not fully address their concerns. I wouldn't want those questions to be limited to a special forum for newbies - I would want to get feedback from a larger pool of more experienced members.

Thanks, both, for your thoughts on this!
Currently, in the forum where we ask people not to post, our top two topics are
Just Diagnosed and
Start Here: We're here for YOU
We hope that people do start there to see what we offer at Breastcancer.org. And then, we hope they jump below to the "Just Diagnosed" forum. We aren't really certain if we should have another forum, necessarily. Do you have thoughts on how we could better organize this, and make it easier for the new person, without creating more forums?

Well, I would recommend pinning it to the top of the site. I know when I first came here I had no idea where to go or how to navigate the site. It was just hit and miss. Pinning it to the top would help newbies get to where they need/want to be.

I agree with pinning the threads. This forum for social security disability pins not only it's own threads but members who have great info to share. Even though I've been approved for 3 years now I'll still go to those pinned threads to refresh my memory on things or I'm at a new stage now and I go to the right forum and scan the pinned threads. If it's pinned, you know there's good helpful info in there.

The welcome to the forum is nice where you read before you post anything and then introduce yourself.

I am posting this as I think others might be interested. I had a mastectomy in 2002 and every two years since my hospital has given me a replacement Amoena Contact. In the early years they lasted for two years but now the last two have split in several places. The quality compared to the older ones is terrible. Considering they are very expensive I think Amoena should check their quality control. I am now having to wear one of my very old ones. Timmywimm
