Hello everyone,

I've had this pain in my breast for while now, I was thinking it was chest pain. I then went to my dr on 7/11/17. She found a lump size of jellybean at 3:00 left breast. This pain is very sharp. She ordered a mammogram and ultrasound. I'm high risk, I also had brca testing in nov 2015. Came back normal, but dralso tod me then that doesn't really matter. So I had 3D mammogram/ultrasound yesterday 7/17/17. After dr in image center reviewed my images, he wants me to have an MRI. I was really hoping today they were going to tell me it was a cyst. Im staying postive, I can't change what it is I can only change the way I react. I'm not going to lie, I'm very scared. Im only 38!

Hi Sunny, I'm sorry you are in this situation. Not knowing is so scary. This is a great community to post your questions.

The MRI can 'see' so much more than the mammogram or ultrasound. While staying positive, I'd recommend getting the MRI so that your medical team has as much information as possible. The MRI is painless (but loud!) and over in 20 minutes. They often play some mellow music for you or you may be able to bring your own. Good luck to you!

I'm in a similar boat, had a clear mammo but not a clear ultrasound. The dr told me I need an MRI. Today the nurse told me it might take a week to before I can make an appt because they need to get it preauthorized. I literally started crying when she told me because the waiting is awful and I feel so certain there is something wrong. I look at my kids and I am just scared

Oneoutofsix, yes, the waiting is the worst! While staying positive, make yourself your own best advocate. Find out who in your doctor's office is in charge of getting pre-authorization from the insurance. Call that person every day to ask about the progress and the status. I've found that inputting lots of "pleases" and "thank yous" and " I really appreciate your time" go a long way. But resist the urge to apologize for calling often! Ask the scheduler if they can 'hold' an appt for you a week from now so that once it is approved, you go in within a day or two rather than waiting any longer.

    Stay stong!

thank you so much ladies! I called back and forth today for over 2 hrs. I got my autho already and booked my appt for next Friday. I'm staying postive :) I know I can change the way I react, being calm is the best for my body right now

I just got mine approved now. Did they tell you they wanted to do the MRI between days 7-14 of your cycle? Luckily for me that is next week so I was able to get in for next week instead of having to wait for a few more weeks.

Timing wasn't an issue for me. They probably want to minimize any hormonal changes that could be picked up. That's a good thing.

The waiting and not knowing is the hardest part. Hopefully you do not have BC but if you do, be assured that once you get a treatment plan in place, you will feel better. Making steps towards recovery helps us to stay focused on being well. BC is scary! But there is a lot of treatment out there and people go on to live long, healthy lives. Just take it one day at a time.

Hopefully you will find out it's a cyst. Keep us posted. Thinking of you!

    Stay strong ladies!

Yes, Oneoutofsix, I forgot about the timing of the MRI. I lucked out and was mid-cycle so didn't have to wait for my MRI.

Hi Sunny, Hope you are hanging in there as you wait for your MRI. I responded to your original post to offer some of my experience, though my journey began back in March and I am in the midst of treatment now. (You can see some of my details in my signature line once you create an account/login). I think another poster "oneoutofsix" replied that she was also in a similar situation as you. Best to you!

hi ladies, I felt a lump on Saturday night and managed to get into the doctors Monday morning and she referred me immediately, I phoned a private surgeon and he saw me also on Monday evening, ultra sound came back normal, mammogram showed normal and I am now waiting for an MRI on Friday this week. I am struggerling to focus and I am worried sick! I don't know how to focus and remain to be a good mum without crying or losing my temper with my beautiful daughter! Such a horrible in between stage to be in! Hope you all get clear results and someone is watching over us
