Hi there,

I was put on Tykerb and Xeloda in March this year, my pet scan 2 months ago showed good response to treatment however my PET scan on Thursday showed much progression as seen on my report.

Would you know if this is considered terminal now? Am I a fool for thinking it can be beaten?

xx

Nina, if you are stage 4 you were and still are considered terminal. I don't like that word myself, and I try not to use it. I say it's not currently curable. However, there are a number of treatments that can keep the cancer at bay for many manyyears. It seems like this one was not the one for you, but you still have many options. Ibrance and faslodex are both great drugs and good in combination. Definitely ask your MO about alternate treatments.

I am curious why you got a PET two months apart?

What are the options of in RSA? Her2 is commonly treated with one of these:

    Herceptin/Perjeta

    Herceptin/Perjeta/chemo like a taxane/Navelbine/Halaven/Gemzar

    Kadcyla

Follow the blog "but doctor I hate pink." Ann has been on all sorts of her2 combos and is kicking at six+ years

Do you have any access to clinical trials? Some promising stuff out there?

Could they re-biopsy a tumor to see if there's been a change in receptor status?

Thank you for your reply ladies.

I am being put back on Herceptin with Gemzar and Carboplatin. We unfortunately dont have Perjerta in South Africa, and I think my onco wants to try normal chemo combinations before moving onto trials.

I have had so many PET scans because no treatment seems to be working and they always scan halfway through treatment and then at the end again.
