Here is the soup I make all the time during chemo due to it is a season for figs.
12-15 green figs, chicken breast, 4 carrots if you can find sweet apricot Kernel you can put 1/4 cup
First I cut the chicken breast in five pieces, boil water and put the chicken for five minutes then I use cold water to rinse it. Then boil about 4-5 cups of water, washed green figs, carrotsand cut the top and bottom off put inside the boiling water, add chicken and sweet apricot kernels. Once the water boil turn down to simmer for couple hours.
Green figs and sweet apricot kernel are good for cancer patients.
Hope I can explain all the steps clearly. Also I can have a tofu recipe.
Walking - yes red dates is good sometime I make red dates water my mom told me it helps the red blood cells.
-
This is sweet apricot kernels
-
Paulette, thank you! Very unusual recipe to me but I am eager to try. Chicken and dates, huh? Do they need to be green? Do they taste differently? We only have them of different shades of brown here.
-
Is it possible to use almound instead of apricot kernels
-
Ok! It is almound flakes I believ
-
these recipes all sound good!
Paulette, for your soup I notice you don't add seasonings like salt and pepper? is it ok to add it? or will it ruin it, since it looks like a sweetish soup?
since we are sharing food related things, has anyone heard of soursop fruit? my family thinks it's good for cancer. we are south american (ecuador). she couldn't find the actual fruit but she found frozen pulp. so she made me a smoothie from it and it is quite delicious.
-
I have not tasted soursoup but cherimoya is delicious. According to Wikipedia:
Soursop is widely promoted (sometimes as "graviola") as an alternative cancer treatment. There is, however, no medical evidence that it is effective.[5]
-
hey cherry
yea i know there is no medical evidence on it, but i'll still consume it. can't hurt right? and it tastes great. I've also had cherimoya. also good. i believe they are similar
-
MakeupLover, and I think you should! I love cherimoya

Just had #2 AC infusion. Hair is coming out in earnest now. Tons of shedding. It's good because it is so annoying that now I will be less angry about shaving my head. I will go today at noon to have it done.
Also, I just told one neighbor about my dx. She saw the Neulasta pod on my arm and asked questions. I guess the whole neighborhood will know now, between my hair and the one neighbor who knows.
I think I feel better this second round, but Im only on day 2. I have learned that each day is a surprise so we will see...

I'm going in for my #4 AC I hope my WBC is high enough to do this infusion. All the questions about soup I will reply when I get to my infusion center. Wish me luck ladies!
-
Makeup - the soups I usually make are clear soups so I usually add salt on the end no pepper at all. Since I don't like salty food I don't add salt on my soup.
Cherry the dates I used is dried red dates. Usually I soak the dates for 20 minutes then I boiled it for 20 minutes and I drink the water. I'm doing this to give some sweet taste to the water and my aunt said red dates is good for us so I do that. Chinese do use red dates make soup
-
Cherry, I just thought of a shortcut to the soup. What if you used 1/2 of an already rotisseried chicken? Then add all of the other lovely ingredients?
UPDATE on the wig quest: I finally obtained a procedure code that actually worked with my BCBS Blue Edgef PPO. It's A9282. The code came from a website that I just ordered my medical wig from: cysterwigs.com . Thankfully, they now have a new CS line and they were able to get that for me so that I could finally get the 99.9% sure that it would work answer. With the wig, I ordered a medical receipt and will get a hard copy rx from my doctor that will have both the new procedure code, diagnosis code and a description of the need for the wig. I already printed the claim forms. I'm so happy!
P.S I already posted this procedure code back in mid July. When I called BCBS then, they had not received any claims yet proving that I was receiving chemo. Of course, the rep I spoke with mid-July did not volunteer that. What that means? I had to wait until the claims for chemo went through, which oddly enough takes about the same amount of time for your hair to begin falling out (like 15 days from first chemo). I had already purchased a less expensive make-do wig out of pocket.
-
Good luck with #4 Paulette! I wish you lots of energy, no nausea and no mouth sores
-
Good luck Paulette! I hope that they keep your infusion times up.
-
Cherry - here is the chicken, red dates wolfberries and bei qi (Chinese herbs) soup.
I boil the chicken for 5-8 minutes then I rinse it with cold water, boil about 6-7 cups water wash the red dates and bei qi then put all three items in the soup. Once the water boil turn to simmer for good three hours. Half an hour before you drink your soup, wash and put the wolfberries in the soup. Then your wolfberries won't turn sour.
Bei qi is good for your body I even make bei qi red dates water. Wolfberries are good for your eyes and something else. You can buy wolfberries in wholefood market.
-
Hi Paulette,
Ok, red dates are goji, I have those, but for bei qi I need to go to the store. Thank you for the recipe, Cherr
-
Good luck to all of you on your next cycles. Im back in the land of the living. My C problem was solved with Dulcolax suppositories. You live and learn.
I have bad burning and numbness in my feet and legs despite icing. Im not sure what to do about that. Im waiting to see if it passes before alerting my MO. I have pre-diabetes so it could be from my blood sugar being up due to the steroids.
-
Paulette, good luck with the chemo, Cherry
-
seeetp6217, now I am not sure If I can express myself very well in culinary register, but I will try. You know how they say, If you want to have a juicy steak you have to fry it around on the pan before placing it into oven. In this way you will seal it so all the juice will stay inside the meat. The same with the water. If you want to boil the chicken to eat cooked chicken meat you should put it into the boiling water. If you instead want to have a broth put the chicken into the cold water and then bring it to boil. What I am trying to say is the rotisseried chicken will not give you the flavour the chicken soup should have, because it already has been cooked, the fat is gone. A chicken usually does not take that long time to cook. Cherry

Paulette-- good luck on your # 4 treatment
-
My hair is falling out in earnest. Had it shaved today and got my wig. I love it! Went to pick up my daughter at school and she said "your hair looks fake" bahahaha. Nothing like a 9 year old to say it like it is. Anyway, I went to the grocery store and no one batted an eyelash so I think it's pretty ok.
-
rdeeside- I love it!
Finished my last AC everything went fine now I'm a little tired I should sleep well tonight.
Thank you for all the supports ❤️❤️❤️
-
Looks great! The part and the hairline look very natural.
-
Thank You Paulette and Leatherette!
-
rdeesides: your hair looks fabulous and should be easy to care for. Good choice!
-
cherry-sw: here I go again with half a story or question. I forgot to mention that I have vacuum sealer bags full of home made chicken stock that I made in a large crock pot from the remains of 2 rotisseried chickens and giblets from those chickens. Hy hubby and I strain it, pour them into bags, placing each flat in the freezer with with the open end at a 90 degree angle up so it doesn't leak out. Once frozen, we seal the bags and joila! Home made stock without all that salt. By the way, we rotisserie our own chickens when we're not lazy. The Ron Popeil rotisserie doesn't clean itself
Of course, we both love the dark meat so we always end up with extra rotisserie breast which we also freeze. We use it later to go with mashed potatoes and gravy since it does tend to be a tiny bit dry.
-
Seeetpea, Im looking forward to not having to style it much for the next 10 or so months
-
Sweetpea, we also make broth out of leftover rotisserie chickens! We keep the carcasses in the freezer until we have a couple and them we through them in the slow cooker with whatever veggies/herbs we have on hand. Then put the broth in freezer bags. So much better than canned broth
-
I'm sure they gave you tips on how to keep it looking new. My hubby found some spare wood, made a circle for a base and stuck a dowel in the middle. I found a styrofoam head at my local grocery/department store (only in the quads) and the dowel was perfect for it. Now I can comb it with a wig comb when it's not on my head. I don't wear it as much as I could because the first one/this one is a bear to style and I can't use heat. My new wig will arrive on Tuesday and "should be" easier to deal with since the hair is longer. Once I use that new one, I'm going to carefully comb out and prep the older one for a shampoo and rinse. I've got all the supplies I need and I'm hoping that the tips I've learned from TAZ on youtube work for me. She is great with wig reviews and I couldn't have chosen what I did without her and her friend Sugarpuffandfluff.
