Bilateral mastectomy with one or both nipple removed?

I will have bilateral mastectomy next Monday & my right nipple had to be removed. Onco surgeon suggests to keep my left nipple but plastic surgeon says that the cosmetic result will be better if I have both nipple removed & later reconstructed (more symmetrical breasts).

I don't know will I feel better being symmetrical but without nipples or not so symmetrical but with at least one natural nipple.

Did anyone had to do similar choice?

Thank you!!

Your PS is correct - it will be harder to get symmetry. However if you are able to keep one nipple, hopefully you will be able to have some sexual stimulation. I didn't know that when I had my BMX.

I had a BMX and kept both nipples. One was somewhat damaged with the surgery and still doesn't act right. The other seemed pretty normal from the start - erectile, responsive. However - I have absolutely NO sensation in either of them!

Symmetry was kind of a big deal for me. I'm not sure in your case. Would you miss having one natural nipple? Or would you feel better if what you had was the same on both sides?
