I know that a Phyllodes Breast Tumor is only to occur in women over the age of 40. But i found a lump 1 month after my 16th birthday. Doctors turned me away because it was the side of a pee at that time, I went back a month 2 months later and it grew to be over an inch, they then took an ultra sound and suggested surgery, 2 weeks after my surgery I went back to the hospital for my results to find I had a rare case of a Phyllodes. mine was Benign. to make sure the tumor didn't come back i went through another surgery to take out the roots. since I got it so young, what does that meen for me? Why did i get this so young? If its only suppose to occur in women between the ages of 40-50 going through menopause. I just dont understand how i got this tumor at 16. What causes this tumor? What gave me this tumor?

    Dear Rhylee,

Here is a link to another older topic on the boards that you might find interesting with regards to a 17 year old being diagnosed with a Phyllodes Tumor and here is some information on our main site about Phyllodes Tumors. They are rare but can occur at any age. You also may want to direct your questions to your doctor who may be able to offer you other resources to help you learn more. We are glad that you were able to get the care that you needed and that in your case your tumor was benign. As a rule we discourage young teens from posting because our community and the information we provide focuses on adults with breast cancer. Feel free to send us a PM if we can provide more resources. phyllodes does not just affect women in their 40-50's unfortunately it affects many ages. I am a member of a support group for people that are diagnosed with phyllodes on Facebook and have seen several young girls. If I can help you in any way I would certainly be glad to

Rhylee - I'm sorry for your diagnosis. I know the MODS have explained you need to be 18 years old to post on these threads. Please do talk to your Mom.
