Hi all. I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago today. I'd like to start doing yoga again. Are there any poses I should avoid because of the port-a-cath? I had two nodes removed, and both were clear, so my risk for lymphedema is lower than average.

    Hi Vixie,

I've had my port for year and a half now, and teach yoga a couple of times a week. My surgeon has not given me any restrictions, and I don't typically limit my poses at all, although I do find that chest expansion, twisting lunges, and side angle or triangle pose with an extended arm, can sometimes be a little uncomfortable. I'm pretty sure I baby my right chest, and don't reach back or out as far as I probably could. But, I still get good stretches, and feel as though I'm reaching the depth of my poses.

Listen to your body, ease back in gently, and do what feels right and good.

    Namaste!

Vixie - be sure to ask your doctor. I would be concerned that all the internal stitches haven't healed in just two weeks.

MinusTwo gives great advice, Vixie - needless to say I missed the "two weeks out" part of your post and was answering in the long-term. My apologies - I reading in-between stop lights (another reason to step away from the phone while in a car!)
