Hi. Wondering how many out there were diagnosed with pure DCIS, and who has treatment consisting of lumpectomy and radiation but then opted out of hormonal therapy? And if so, how are you doing? Am still really on the fence about starting on anAI, which I've already filled the prescription for but can't seem to bring myself to take.

I was diagnosed in June 2015 with DCIS, right breast, Stage O, Grade 2, ER+/PR-. Had a lumpectomy, Had radiation. Refused the hormonal therapy against the advice of my oncologist. I just recently had my 2nd follow up mammogram and it showed nothing suspicious. Might not work for ever one but so far great for me. I am also on a heavy exercise program and have greatly improved my diet. Oncodx test came back extremely high for me, 78. But I decided to take the chance as the side effects of the hormonal therapy I think would be worse for me than the cancer returning. Just my results, yours might differ. Good luck.

Why don't you do some reading on the hormonal threads. Go to 'all topics' on the left and scroll down to things that seem relevant.

I was diagnosed with DCIS November 2016. Lumpectomy and radiation. I too wrestled with taking tamoxifen. Started in April 2017 and doing ok with it. My oncologist said he would be ok with whatever decision I made. The surgeon didn't think I needed radiation but wanted me to take tamoxifen. The radiologist said I needed radiation. Ultimatel I went with the advice of my GP. She told me absolutely positively to take the tamoxifen. Because I believe she is probably the best doctor I have ever met, I agreed to try. Whenever I think I may be experiencing a side effect I tell myself I can always take a brea
