Confused about Punch Biopsy:Anyone familiar with Gram Stains?
Just curious.... my Gram Stain Result came back "No Organisms Seen". I know this is good and shows that I don't have an "infection". Wouldn't you think that the sample taken would also be sent to pathology to look at the cells? Or is this it?
I had an excisional biopsy of the other breast which I'm still waiting on. I had to be seen before my post-op followup because the right breast was very red, painful and leaking a greenish discharge. She told me the report showed there was nothing bad showing on the right, told me that the punch biopsy was hard on my breast because it was dead center on my nipple. Gave me antibiotics and told me to come back for my regularly scheduled post-op followup appt on Friday.
I guess my question....(yes, I will ask more questions on Friday), should I be expecting a full pathology report on both breasts even though my Gram Stain Culture was taken?
I'll join the crown....waiting sucks!!!

I didn't have the discharge from my nipple that you had--that sounds horrible. But good to hear that it wasn't an infection. I can't speak to the Gram Stain, but my docs wanted to deliver all of my pathology results in person. You could reach out and ask if you will be getting additional pathology results from the right breast at the same time. Best of luck! (Love your avatar, BTW)

whether or not you get additional cytology results or pathology results (depending on whether they examined the fluid or tissue) depends on what the rule outs were on the issue you presented with. If your doc was only concerned about infection, then the gram stain may be it. If your doc was concerned it might be an infection OR it might be something malignant, then I would assume she/he also sent the cells to be examined. Waiting is awful, I hope you get B9 results soon!

Thanks....my post op is this afternoon! She told me that my pathology report should be in today otherwise they would reschedule the post op for another week.
I know there will be a report on the left one.....but I'm hoping they also sent tissue for the right breast for pathology as well, otherwise, I'm still going to wonder. If it wasn't an infection, I don't think its normal to have something green brewing in a breast....what was it? And is it gone?
Thanks to both of you! And jmayersf , thanks....I actually drew it with a sad face quite awhile ago when I was going through a difficult time.....lol, but a friend of mine grabbed it from my fb page, and turned my frown to a smile.... so I kept it!!!

Good news! Just a b9 keratinaceous cyst.... she found a second "plug" on the post op visit....and that was just awful painful, but I'm relieved! Thanks
