Core Biopsy

Hi, so I guess from tomorrow I'm officially joining the waiting lounge. Going for my core needle biopsy tomorrow. I'm a bit scared, not of the results so much, but I keep thinking, WOW, the biopsy will surely hurt? Also hoping I will be able to get results before the weekend, as I have been waiting for an answer as to what's wrong with my breast for more then 4 months now. In February I felt severe pain in my left breast and the next day the nipple started leaking (sorry not sure of all the correct terms, English really isn't my first language) Was send for a mammogram, where they couldn't pick up on any abnormalities. Went for a sonar the same they, and the technician said she will be ordering for a biopsy. Got my report back and stated they only suspect infection in the gland and I should finish a course of antibiotics. After the first course, there was still some discharge from the nipple, and I completed another course of antibiotics. Symptoms improved but didn't clear. The discharge from the nipple turned bloody for a while. After a month I was scheduled for another sonar, the report read, no lump was found, only a significant increase in stromal tissue, and due to my family history they recommend an MRI. Both grandmothers had BC, my mom had colon cancer and my aunt, on my moms side also has BC. MRI results came back, indicating segmental irregular nodular enhancements. It's non mass like and multiple type III post kinetic curves. Bi-Rads 4c. Really looking forward to know my biopsy results, so we can start treatment, if needed, if not, even better.

want2know, so sorry you're here with breast health concerns. As far as the biopsy, I felt some discomfort during the procedure, but nothing that some ice and a few over the counter pain relievers didn't fix. I didn't even need those the next day. Please make sure and ask your center for little ice packs if they have them (they are small and round and fit neatly inside your bra for maximum comfort). Ask for a couple so that one can stay in the freezer and one on the site. Each lab is different in how long results take, so be sure to ask them when they are expected and if they'll tell you over the phone or if you'll need to be seen in person (facilities vary in this regard). Also, ask them to send you a copy of your pathology report and ask for a copy of your images for your own personal records. Either way, having a set of them lets you provide them to a future different imaging center or medical provider as needed. The other thing you might discuss with your provider is genetic testing. Given the family history you've described above, it doesn't seem out of the question. And could justify increased future monitoring. If you get any confusing language, if you post it here we can help you better understand. Sending you warm wishes for B9 results and gentle ((Hugs))

    Want2know,

Im definitely not an expert but had a core biopsy on Monday this week and it was much easier than the dentist. The shot to deaden the area was the only thing I felt and it was just a prick and a sting. I know it may not be the same for everyone, but hopefully it will be easy for you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
