BMX two weeks after neoadjuvent chemo?
Had anyone had their surgery just two weeks after neoadjuvent chemo? I feel ok. Just a bit tired from the chemo. Blood counts were On the low end of normal last week. I know there is no really great time for this surgery but I'm hoping others have had success. I have a great support system so I know I will have lots (probably too much) help when I get home. Just curious as I see most everyone seems to have surgery a month after chemo ends.

My doc's both agree that a month is appropriate. My last chemo was 5/29, surgery will be 6/27. I'd recommend mentioning it if you're concerned and not in a big hurry.

Thanks Illimae. I was originally scheduled for three weeks after chemo but I had a one week delay due to low neutrophils. They kept me on the schedule due to trying to coordinate both the B and PS. BS said it would be ok as long as my blood work is ok - which it is. I have one more appt with him before Thursday. Maybe I'll feel great or maybe my blood counts will drop and I'll have to postpone. I do want this part behind me

I had surgery 3 weeks after last neo-adjuvant chemo. It went fine, and I was back on more chemo 3 weeks after surgery

Wow, I had surgery 2 months after chemo. Did scans and PS visits before surgery.I was feeling strong and had great blood counts by the time I did my surgery.

I was told that 4-6 weeks is the best time for surgery after chemo - enough time for body recovery but not enough time for cancer recovery?
I finished chemo on 4/5 and had BMX on 5/9 - 5 weeks.

Momine, thanks for responding. It makes me less anxious that you were fine having surgery at 3 weeks after chemoYes, NotVeryBrave, and jbdayton it seems most people are around the 4 week mark. It seems quick to me too but the doctors think I'll be alright. Hope they are right.

hi legomaster --i had surgery two weeks after chemo . The main thing is that counts need to be OK. BS said that as long as my white count was good, she was ok to operate . I didnt want to wait and i felt ok ( waiting is agony) . so i had surgery two weeks after final chemo as my counts were good.
Just my experience --- counts definitely are important . But i think there is range of what is best --so do what works best for you in terms of how you feel

My UMX was 2 weeks after last neoadjuvant DD A/C. 3 weeks after UMX, I started 12 weekly Taxol adjuvant. A week after last Taxol started rads. I had no blood count issues on neoadjuvant Chemo - just low K (potassium) levels 1/2 way through adjuvant Chemo.
It needs to be remembered that we each have our own DX with is not the SME as anyone else's. We entered TX with/without other medical issues that could come into play with TX plans. Different Drs also had different 'ideas' on TX.

Thank you Tara17 and Kicks. It just makes me more comfortable knowing others have had similar treatments. At this point I'm getting myself psyched up for surgery In a few days. Tara, I hope you are healing well. You have such a positive outlook on the June Surgery thread and are very supportive and inspirational to everyone there.

Hi Lego,
I had my bmx just 2.5 weeks after finishing chemo and was fine. Like you I was a little concerned but the BS and PS were confident it would be ok. I was back at work full-time (office job) five weeks later. Everyone is different but its doable! I was glad to keep the process moving. Breast cancer is a huge time suck lol!! Hugs and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I wanted to update this post just in case someone looks at it later. My BMXsurgery 2 weeks PFC went well. My blood counts were just about at the low end of normal when I went in. I am recovering well. I may have had felt physically stronger had I waited longer but mentally I am now glad I just got it over with. I did not have many side effects with my chemo though so that helped. My doctors thought I was ready and again they were right.
