Did anyone's recurrence present as red skin only?

Options

I am TNBC nearly five years out from diagnosis. I had ACT chemo, BMX, and radiation. I was 44 at diagnosis, but periods stopped with chemo and I've been post menopausal since. I have implants on both sides. This morning I noticed a round area of redness below (not touching) me mastectomy scar line. It's about an inch in diameter and is not raised. No puckering or orangepeel..it's smooth. I'm concerned because breast infections are most common in breastfeeding or at least premenopausal women. (So less likely that I have one.) My MO had me send her a photo and after receipt she asked to see me tomorrow and prescribed an antibiotic. Did anyone's recurrence start out as just red skin?

I wanted to stop in and give support. I know someone with experience will be by soon to give input. Hopfully you are scheduled to see your doctor too.

Definitely get it checked. Hopefully it is a benign cause. Keep us posted

    Hello Placid,

I have had red skin blotches on my skin since my BMX- on affected/radiated side. I had it thoroughly checked out by my MO and SO and they both said it was nothing to worry about. My skin is especially thin in a few areas on my radiated breast over the implant and I believe this could be the cause of it. Additionally, when I get warm- i.e. being out in direct sunlight, I notice my skin over the implant becomes inflamed in a circular fashion. It eventually goes away. Has your redness changed/gone away/faded? Have you used any different detergents or different soap lately? Rubbing your skin on something different/unusual? Those are the initial questions my MO asked me. Let us know how you are doing!

    Hi Placid -

How is your rash? Did it go away?

I am 10 years out - TNBC. I had mast & prophylactic mast - chemo and rads. I have a purple rash on my rads side near my scar that goes over beneath my underarm. Only one spot of the rash is raised; the rest is flat and does not itch. I am seeing the breast surgeon Friday. Wondering if anyone has had a flat purple rash on or near the mastectomy scar? Thanks much.
