biopsy stereotactic - awaiting results
I had a routin mammography (my first one), after which I was called to schedule a second mammography and ultrasound.
The second mammography confirmed microcalcifications and a lamp. The lamp didn't show on the ultrasound. The doctor said I
needed a biopsy. They did not tell me the bi-rad, but they seemed to have no doubt about me needing one.
The only thing I know is that the size is 12-13mm.
A week later I had the biopsy (on the 29th), and now I am awaiting the results. I was wondering if I should assume that the bi-rad was 4 or 5, or do they procceed with biopsy in other cases?
The left a titanium marker in the biopsy, is this an indication of a possible needed surgery, or is it just a routin procedure?
Not knowing anything it really hard and they wouldn't even show me my mammography.... I took a picture of it with my phone and the doctor did not like it lol
I asked about my family history, and one of my mother's aunts had cancer.
By the way, I live in Italy.

Dear uncertainty,
Welcome to the BCO community. We are sorry that this change in your breast has brought you here but glad that you reached out to our members. We are hoping that you will receive a benign result but our members would say that the waiting and uncertainty that testing brings is one of the most stressful experiences. We are hoping that you will get a confirmation one way or the other soon because definitive information can help you to cope, regardless of what you learn you will be able to plan accordingly. Here is some information on the BiRads system. As you can see here a biopsy does not infer that you have cancer. Here is information on Biopsy including additional thoughts on the titanium markers and why they might be used. Keep us posted on what you learn, what you need and how we can support you. The Mods

Uncertainty, it's my understanding they leave a titanium marker in your breast at the time of biopsy to mark the biopsy location. So when you get another mammo later, they can see the marker. My first biopsy was not done in the right spot. The radiologist looked at my follow-up mammo that I had six months later and could see the marker and still see the calcifications, etc., so I had a second biopsy that removed the proper portion and the marker with it!
Good luck to you and I hope you get benign results!

That sounds resonable. One less thing to worry about :-)
Thanks Bluebirdgirl.

Thank you mods. So happy I found this form. I was doing ok until today, but a week of waiting to results has taken a toll on me...

Believe me, we have all been in your shoes. The best thing I can suggest while you're waiting is to keep your hands busy. I find that when my hands are busy my mind cannot concentrate on my worries. And try to stay off Dr Google. He is no friend of yours.

Yeah. Keeping myself busy worked well until today. Today is more difficult for some reason...
