Driver for outpatient procedure: quick question

Does anyone know the answer to this? I need to have a liver biopsy for which I will be sedated. They told me I need a driver to take me home after. Does that person have to stay at the hospital the whole time, or could I just have my boyfriend come pick me up at the end of the day?

Of course I will call them Monday to ask but was wondering if anyone knew the answer ahead of time. :)

I'm not a Stage IV patient, but I work with them. I can offer this:

My best guess is your boyfriend can pick you up after, but he would need a phone call because the hospital won't be able to give an exact time that you're finished and ready to go. You know how it is: your appointment time is at 8 am, but they don't get you into imaging until 10 am and it takes an hour after biopsy to ensure there's no bleeding, etc. so an exact time for discharge from the hospital is anyone's guess!

Best of luck and big hugs!

Generally, there is no reason for someone to be in the waiting room. When you checkin for the surgery, you will be asked for your boyfriend's name and phone number so they can contact him in either an emergency, or to let him know that you are in recovery. Good luck with your procedure!

What they said. Can be dropped off and picked up. I agree you'll need to provide a phone number.

I just got my call for my liver biopsy. Apt for 7:30 AM. Should be okay to leave at 2PM. He said okay for me to drive home.
