Hi there! I'm 25 years old and recently discovered that I have Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia in a Fibroadenoma. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this and what the outcome was? The doctors said I am at a higher risk for breast cancer. Also, what is the recovery like? I am scheduled to have surgery on Monday and have my stepdad's funeral on Wednesday. Is this doable? Thank you so much!

My experience was a little different. I had atypical lobular hyperplasia with microcalcifications. I was 42. There was nothing worse found on excision which was great. As far as the next day...I was a little sore but not bad at all. I was tightly wrapped with an ace wrap around my chest so I wasn't standing up perfectly straight. I am so sorry for everything you are going through and sorry for your loss. Prayers that all goes well for you.

That's helpful! Did the issue ever reoccur? Thank you so much for the prayers! <3

Not yet but it is all still pretty new. I just had my excisional biopsy earlier this year. I actually have my first MRI next week. Also having my first mammogram since the surgery next week.

Rebecca, with this medical information now in your personal history, it would be wise to meet with your provider and get specific information about your risk of bc (including any other pertinent info, like family history) and discuss the plan for your future monitoring schedule. Many younger women get ultra sounds (younger women typically have denser breasts and mammos are less useful) and/or mri on a routine basis, depending on their risk profile. Glad that you had b9 results, but given your increased risk, increased monitoring is wise. Good luck!
