Weight Gain from Ovarian Function Supression and Tamox or AI

Options

Hello, I am 32 with a highly positive ER and PR diagnosis and this is the proposed hormonal treatment for me. Anyone with the same treatment that can share their experience? Did you gain a lot of weight? If not, how? Any other serious side effects?

Thanks and my best wishes to all

I think the key is to keep moving and be very careful about your carbs and fat. Some women do not gain at all. i didn't gain for one year and then put on 40 pounds in 4 months. It feels like it is all around the middle. I had surgery at that time so I couldn't keep my normal routine. STill it was fast and furious when I gained weight. I am not having much success removing the pounds even with an intense effort. Just stay in front of it if you can.

I still have my ovaries, but I have to religiously watch my calorie intake now since I'm taking an AI. I use an app, myfitnesspal, to capture calories (it has an extensive library and users are adding in foods/calorie counts all the time, include fast food, etc).

I also used this site https://www.lifespanfitness.com/fitness/resources/...

to figure out how many calories I needed to eat in order to maintain current weight/lose weight. It allows you to put in whether you are moderately active, slightly active, etc. The key here is to be honest with both activity level and daily calorie counts. I think so many people think that their activity level is higher than it is, and that any kind of exercise (walking etc) burns more calories than is actually true. E.g. if you weigh 135 lbs, and you walk 30 min (15-17 min miles), you'll burn appx. 167 calories. A Starbucks tall Caffe Mocha is 230 calories, so you'd need to walk appx. 45 min just to burn that off.

Since I've been on this AI, I found it much harder to lose weight, so I guess I'm married to the above app for the duration. Happily I'm not gaining weight -- my BMI is just below 20, and I'm not trying very hard to lose any more right now.
