seroma drainage after bilateral mastectomy

Options

I am still having drainage 3 months after my bilateral mastectomy. Has anyone had it this long or longer?

Yep, you're not alone! The PS said it isn't common, but not rare, either. He takes all drains out after 3 weeks to prevent infection, but I've been aspirated about 5 times since 3/31. At first they were getting 120 ccs out of each side. (Luckily I'm still numb there!) It's now been 3 weeks since I was aspirated last, but I started chemo on 5/19, and he said he wouldn't want to do it again (if necessary) until right before my next chemo on 6/9. I can tell there's fluid there, but maybe if we don't aspirate for several weeks, my body will absorb it. I guess nature abhors a vacuum, and fills up the blank space left by the skin sparing BMX.

I had a bilateral mastectomy with nipple sparing reconstruction and direct implants on 4/17. The 4 drains came out 2 weeks after with drainage under 20cc/24hr. Since then I have had to be drained 3 times. Today 100cc/left, 30cc/right. I have kept the compression bra on night and day.. Surgeon said I may have a seroma cavity, and I am freaking about this. He said if it doesn't stop draining I might have to go back to surgery.
