pain after biopsy

Hello everyone,

I am new here and I think it is wonderful there is a group of people helping each other.

I had my stereotactic core biopspy 16 days ago. I didn't find the pain to be very bad at all.

I did develop a hematoma. My results were a fibroadenoma with intraductal calcifications and fibrocystic changes with focal dense fibrosis and intraductal calcifications. We will just keep an eye on things apparently.

So I figured that all was well.

But now I am starting to experience pain. My breast feels like a brick and around the site of the biopsy there is a black scab with kind of white ring around it with redness around that. The white ring (yellowish at times) feels kind of hard. The redness around it seems to be getting smaller. There was a very minor amount of pus a couple of days ago that went away. I had no fever at that time.

They did leave a clip in me just to mark the spot and I suspect that I am feeling the pain from the clip. I should have thought of that before agreeing as my body is notorious for not liking anything foreign to be left in it.

Did anyone else experience this and is it simply part of the healing process. I certainly have more pain now than I did the day after the biopsy.

No, I think if you had pus you have an infection and should call your doctor. It is highly unlikely to be the rice-grain sized marker. It is made from the same inert metal as joint replacements and reactions to them are exceedingly rare.

Thank you for your reply. I am going to call the Dr. tomorrow and actually tried today but it was too late. The amount of pus was very little but I will see what they have to say.

The white ring looks weird but I was hoping many someone else could tell me if it was an experience they had as well. I probably wouldn't even be worried though if the pain wasn't increasing instead of going away. It is certainly not unbearable but then again it isn't something I would want to have all the time because it does hurt at the slightest touch.

Well I did go to the ER on Friday and they gave me 2 antibiotics. They then recommended I go back to the place that did the procedure after the weekend. I got in today and they did an ultrasound. I have an infection. There is speculation it might be MRSA but they don't want to disturb anything to test for that just yet. They also feel that I am having an allergic reaction to the clip that was placed inside. Yes, it is rare but not unheard of. Since I am having gallbladder surgery on 5/31 they are recommending that the surgeon remove the clip and all of the wound during that time and then I will be starting with clean tissue and can be watched closely while it heals.

For now I must continue to take the 2 antibiotics and also add Benedryl to the list. All I can say is that I guess someone has to be the 1%.
