  • I am going in for a biopsy next week on a breast that I had treated six years ago for stage one A year ago I have images from the MRI ultrasound and mammogram and they all looked good so you can imagine how surprised I am to be told that I need to get a biopsy on the same breast The suspicious mass appears to be a 2-3 cm size.

So, does anyone know the answer to my question ? Thanks so much.

I found this: When you have had DCIS, you are at higher risk for the cancer coming back or for developing a new breast cancer than a person who has never had breast cancer before. Most recurrences happen within the 5 to 10 years after initial diagnosis. The chances of a recurrence are under 30%.

    Hope this helps.

I was diagnosed and treated over a year ago. Prayers, attitude, and following doctor's recommendations is what I am hoping will be a positive outcome. Live one day at a time -- leave the rest in God's hands. You're in my prayers.

An I would add from what I have read that half the time when you have a recurrence it is invasive. That is the scary part to me.

sherry, yes, you still at risk for recurrence. We all are. The % risk will depend on many factors. There is always some breast tissue left, they can't get 100% of it out. So, your personal risk factors will include family history, presence of genetic mutations, grade of dcis, histology of dcis, age at time of diagnosis and more. Are you taking tamox or an AI? If you put your stats into your sign line and then make them public, it is easier to speak to your specific situation.

    Hey all,

    Thanks for your replies.

New primary is what I found out from my pathology report. The doctor told me yesterday that this tumor was not close or overlapping the original site. I didn't think to ask whether this is a New Primary or Recurrence. I would think that if the histology is different, and in a different site, this is a new event, right? It's just so rare that I'd love....

.... to know how I can find others with similar Dx.

This tumor has only 50% positivity for er/pr, my original was 99%

I need some help here finding the answer to this question.
