Pain a month after surgery.. is this normal?
Hi everyone, I had a benign breast tumour removed almost 5 weeks ago and after the surgery I felt fine with no pain! However, a few days ago when the last of my stitches came out my breast is now feeling quite sore and as if there is a lump there where the tumour was. I was just wondering if this was normal or not?

Katiew, sometimes seromas (a pocket of clear fluid forms) or hematomas (deep bruise or area of blood)form when breast tissue is taken out or bacteria can be introduced when your sutures are removed. You should call your provider and get it checked out.

I've read that it's common to get lumps after surgery, I just didn't want to phone/go back to the hospital if it was something that is normal

Katiew, please call your provider and describe what you are experiencing. Let them tell you whether it is "normal" for you or not.

I think I'll phone in the morning then. She said it would take 6-8 weeks for everything to feel normal again so wasn't sure if I was just being paranoid or not so was wondering If anyone else had experienced a similar thing

Your Dr(s) are the only ones that tell you what is going on.When did you last see your Surgeon? Didn't your Surgeon remove your sutures if you had external sutures? Not all have external sutures because many Drs now use Surgical Glue to seal the incision externally.
Did you have drains? After they are removed a seroma (pocket of fluid) may develope.
Internal, disolveable sutures may not completely dissolve and work to the surface presenting like a little pimple/zit.
I haven't read that "it's common to get lumps after surgery". Only your Dr(s) can DX what is going on now. It is important that you be sure and tell your Dr all that is (or isn't) doing on so he/she can know what is going on. No one here can tell you what is (or isn't) going on!
Talk to your Dr!

I saw my surgeon 2 weeks ago and everything was healing well, my stitches are dissolvable so haven't had to go back since. I've read on many online articles that a lot of people experience lumps after surgery, my surgeon also told me this. I wanted to post first before calling my doctor incase anyone had experienced this or if it was normal
