biopsy next week
six months ago I was told I had a complex cyst and was birads 3 to come back in 6 months. Today they said that the cyst looked solid and had changed shapes. Now I'm birads 4 and have to biopsy next week. How serious is a change in shape?

Highly Suggestive of Malignancy.
Appropriate Action Should Be TakenHi shazelwo,
I can't really answer your question, but based on what your docs say, they want to know more about it. You are still in the screening process!
They didn't rate it BI-RADs 5 (Highly suggestive of malignancy; appropriate action should be taken), instead they rated it BI-RADs 4 (Suspicious abnormality; biopsy should be considered). The description of BI-RADs 4 goes on to say:
"This category is reserved for findings that do not have the classic appearance of malignancy but are sufficiently suspicious to justify a recommendation for biopsy. "
You can find a fuller description of the BI-RADs system "here." (You'll also want to know that 80% of all biopsies result in B9 findings.)
My best wishes for B9 results asap!
HTH,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me, I really appreciate it. Its been a tough weekend. Everyone Ive tried to lean on just pretty well blows it off and says "don't worry, I'm sure its nothing!" and I really just want someone to say " I really hope everything is OK" I have my biopsy tomorrow at 11 am with a breast surgeon I'm scared it will hurt also
I'll just be happy to be out of limbo and hopefully on the side of the fence where my life doesn't change dramatically.

I really DO hope everything is OK, and know how difficult just waiting and wondering and worrying can be. Good luck for a pain-free procedure and B9 results!

I had my biopsy. he confirmed with ultrasound that the biopsy needed to be preformed and then did a vacuum assisted biopsy. He said it could be cancer or it could be benign, but he think its benign. My procedure didnt hurt but now I am sore since its been a few hours, but he gave me percocet so that is helping me feel better. He said the results will be on Friday or Monday. I think alot of my anxiety was stemming from being scared of the procedure I do feel more relaxed now that its over. Thank you both so much for letting me vent my emotions about all this. Now to just relax for the next few days and hope ot will all be over soon.

Relaxing for a few days sounds like an excellent plan! and I'm very glad that you are feeling more relaxed. Anticipatory anxiety is a b*tch! Hoping your doctor was right and you get happy B9 results soon.

My breast still hurts from my biopsy ...OUCH! My incision is on the bottom right where the skin folds over and it is irritated really bad because I have some post baby rolls that creep up there lol. I took some of the pain meds the Dr. gave me tonight.

Got the results yesterday and they were benign! The receptionist told me the dr hadnt reviewed my report yet and he would call me when he did but nit to worry the results were benign.

Congrats! So glad to hear your good news.
