Hi everyone,

I posted in waiting in results and got my results below. Not the outcome I expected, but had a feeling. Waiting to meet with the BS on Friday, but until then I am nervous/scared/panicking.

Google isn't my friend and I fee this outcome won't be good, although I keep hearing it's early and it's small.

The grade now is freaking me out. I have 2 little kids and so afraid for them. I can't stop crying.

Diagnosis:

1. RIGHT BREAST, 12:00 - 1:00, STEREOTACTIC VACUUM ASSISTED CORE

BIOPSY:

- DUCTAL CARCINOMA IN SITU (DCIS), NUCLEAR GRADE 2- 3, WITH NECROSIS,

CALCIFICATIONS AND

EXTENSION INTO LOBULES

I'm sorry. Being told you have any cancer, any grade, any stage can be frightening to anyone. Even with "necrosis, calcifications and extension into lobules," your prognosis is excellent. Small and early is awesome! Breast cancer is very treatable, even for someone like me who was diagnosed at Stage IIIA with very aggressive cancer (triple positive, Grade 3). In the meantime, please take care of yourself. Maybe, that means letting it all out and having some crying jags. Maybe, that means doing something you truly enjoy with family and friends. Also, if you are truly having panic attacks, let your doctor know! I have used Xanax and Ativan periodically since being diagnosed with breast cancer, and there's no shame in asking for something that can improve your quality of life right now. ((Hugs))

thanks Elaine. that's good to hear. I'm 38 and it's calcifications. This is all new to me and trying to understand it all while in panic mode. I went for my yearly physical in Nov/Dec and my doc said I am perfectly healthy. Now this got me worried. She did prescribe some anxiety medicine back then so I will go ahead and fill it.

there is no history in my family, so this just comes as a surprise.

    Nervousnelly,

Most of us here don't have a family history of breast cancer; I know that I certainly didn't. I think the media overplay the role of inherited BC genes too much. Hence, many of us think we're "safe" when we're not.

    nervousnelly,

I had no family history either, and was diagnosed at 38 (pretty atypical age). I am here 14 years NED later. DCIS is about as early as you can catch bc. You don't need to be afraid for your children. Unless any subsequent tissue pathology (lx, mx etc) changes your diagnosis, this is NOT a risk to your life. You'll be getting your pathology details (ER/PR etc) and that will help guide your choices for treatment. It's okay to freak out a bit, but your life is not in danger from this. Get your full pathology report, then get your team together. At that point, you will start being able to make more decisions and feeling more powerful in your own treatment. Then, things start to feel more manageable.

So sorry you've had to join our club! ((hugs))
