Still fatigued 3 years out
Hey ladies!
Just looking for input here. Im still struggling with fatigue and wondering if this is normal. Example...yesterday I went to the library, took dd for a haircut, did a little food shopping and then later afternoon went to kids b-day party.
I was wiped out last night! Today I'm still exhausted and barely off the couch. If I do anything on a Saturday I'm done for the weekend.
I'm trying to find a full time job and genuinely concerned about my stamina.
Anyway is serious fatigue this far out just part of the new normal?

TangAndChris - I found I had to gradually build up stamina. I'm also just over 3 years out and until I started exercising some at least 4 days a week, I spent much of my time wiped out. Once I started walking again & doing mild Yoga, little by little I could add more things in one day. Then for a long time I did only 1/2 days at full speed. Now I can actually have a day like your Saturday and usually compensate by just sleeping in late on Sunday.

I'm walking again..hoping that is going to help some. It has been suggested that my thyroid levels might be off, so I'm gonna try and look at that.

What are your Vit D and B (6 & 12) levels? These can have a huge effect on your energy levels. Thyroid is also a possible concern. Been a bit 'tired' at times recently but (as of the 25th) my D & B levels are fine but thyroid was a bit low so med for it was increased.

I think doing things for the purpose of building up stamina does help. I say that because last year my husband and I walked our dogs nearly every day, and I was gradually able to go farther and farther without nearly dying, lol.
Then, late last summer, he--my husband-- had to start doing a LOT of work out of town, which meant he stayed at a hotel for anywhere between one and four nights every single week. (Bleh.) I don't walk the dogs when I'm home alone because I've developed quite a talent for falling--due to neuropathy in my feet, I think-- and we just didn't feel like it was a good idea for me to do it on my own when he was out of town like that because there really isn't anyone here in town that I could even call, and the risk of losing one of the dogs was one I wasn't prepared to take.
So, months of RARELY walking the dogs, and I definitely have less stamina and less energy overall than I did a year ago. I seriously considered buying a treadmill, but the sad reality that hit me was that there is almost always a multitude of things that need doing here in the house and that it would be sort of silly of me to buy a treadmill to walk to nowhere when I could be using that energy to, you know, actually do things like dust my gazillion knickknacks, mop or vacuum my floors, change the sheets on our beds, etc. and so on.
Now I just have to make myself actually do those things, lol.
To be totally honest though, I will admit that I was never exactly a "high energy" person to begin with. I'm fairly lazy, and a major procrastinator, so sometimes, maybe, I subconsciously use the fatigue that I definitely DO have since treatment as an excuse to not do things I *could* do, but don't really want to do. I really need to work on that.
tl;dr Yeah, for some of us at least, the fatigue hangs around unless we actively do things to fight it off.

I agree with Kicks. My onc found I was vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficient. I get injections once a month for B12. Has made a big difference in energy in bringing these levels up. Oh and I also take synthroidfor my thyroid. I would get these checked.

thx ladies....I'm gonna get this checked at my appt in June. I'm tired of being tired. My weight gain is bad too. I saw a picture of myself from that party this weekend and it was truly eye opening. Bleh
