Waiting on open biopsy results
Hi Everyone,
Feeling worried tonight, I'm a 33 year old mother of two and I live in quite an isolated location. I recently found changes to my left breast that are not normal for me, basically I had abnormal (blood) discharge from my left breast in just one duct. Mammogram I think was minimal calcification but not in a suspicious pattern, I had an ultrasound that showed one dilated duct, and a sample of the discharge showed some ducal cells that are variably enlarged with hyperchromatic nuclei. After discussing with my specialist she went ahead and did an open biopsy on Monday.
I get results on Thursday but I am so worried, I wish I just knew now what was going on. If I have to drive to the city for treatment it's going to be a massive upheaval to my life and will impact on my ability to work casually as I do now. There is nofull time after school care here and I'm not sure what I will do with the kids if I have to be away form home for any length of time (My husband works full time). I know it is silly but I am dwelling on things and thinking of worst case scenarios which is not helping my state of mind

Dear Qjane983,
We are sorry that these breast changes and the testing and the waiting are causing you so worry. We are glad that you reached out here. We see that you haven't received any responses yet. Most here will say that the waiting for results and answers is the most frustrating and anxiety causing time. Not knowing can often lead to thinking of the worst and then trying to figure out how to manage the worst when you have no concrete information to go on. We are hoping for a benign result for you and at the same time know that regardless of the outcome it may be easier to figure out the details once you have information and a plan. For now we encourage you to try to distract your thoughts in any way you can. Keep us posted. We are here for you and sending you positive thoughts. The Mods

Jane,
Waiting for results is really horrible! And worrying about being separated from your kids is not silly. Please, so try your best not to expect the worst. Use distraction (playing with your lovely children, binge watching movies, going for a long walk, baking/cooking) and relaxation (warm bath, listening to soothing music, yoga, breathing etc) while you wait. And do not use Google to look up symptoms, there is so much outdated or just plain erroneous information, that it will only cause you anxiety. When you get your results, ask for the written report (not just the patient letter) and post any confusing language here, and we will help you better understand. Sending you ((hugs)).
