New to Ibrance

Options

I'm starting my 2nd round of Ibrance. Have just been diagnosed with metastasized breast cancer to the lungs. Can anyone shed light on how long it might take for the cough to improve if Ibrance works. I'm on 125 mg and was hoping to see improvement in my cough, but haven't, which makes me wonder if it's working. It is my first line of treatment with Femara and Xgeva. My tumor marker blood work has jumped from 90 to 150 after one round of treatment. I'm reading that Ibrance takes a while to work, but shouldn't I be seeing some improvement if it is working?

Hi Nana, you and I are on just about the same time line and treatment route. I am on my second week of my second cycle of Ibrance and lotrazole. Cough was really bad when I presented, but I live in an apartment with a new downstairs neighbor who started smoking in the bathroom. The smoke came up into my bathroom and I had a terrible reaction to it. So when I presented, I had both breast lumps and a terrible cough. The CT scan showed a left lobe consolidation with ground-glass appearance that the rad said could be either post-pneumonia or tumor. There were multiple little blips of tumor through both lungs, though. Since I needed to have an abscessed tooth pulled, I was put on a good cycle of antibiotics. That was a month ago and my cough has almost completely cleared, so I really think the large consolidation was pneumonia reaction from cigarette smoke.

As far as the results from Ibrance, I know it is already working as I had a thumbnail-sized skin metastases that has already shrunk by half after just my first cycle. It is hard for me to judge how much Ibrance contributes to lessening my cough, but I feel for my disease, this is the best course for me. I won't have scanning for another six weeks or so. Maybe we can compare notes then. My Onc doesn't do tumor markers at all, but all my blood work is really good and he is very enthusiastic about that :)

Best of luck to you! I've done the antibiotics and steroid shots to rule out any infection so my cough is definitely the tumors. I feel well but the cough is a constant reminder that I'd love to see improve as a clear sign that Ibrance will work for me. I'm finding that lung mets are not as common as bone and liver so having trouble finding people to compare notes with!
