Embarrassing Question!

Options

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I haven't needed to ask anything because everyone here is so smart and provided so much great information! My embarrassing question is this:

I am having a bilateral mastectomy with DIEP flap in 4 weeks. I would like to have a bikini and stomach wax beforehand to keep grooming down to a minimum afterwards. I was planning on doing it about 10 days prior but would a stomach wax interfere at all with the transfer of skin?

Thank you all so much in advance!

I have heard of people finding hair transferred during a DIEP! For me - I haven't had any issues with that but I would want the surgeon to know where the hair was. Other than that, a concern would be any cuts which I supose shouldn't be a problem if you don't leave it until the last minute. But then there's regrowth whilst your scars are healing. For me - worrying about unwanted hair was the last thing I thought about. Once you heal up is the time to think about grooming.

I wish you a speedy and comfortable recovery, take your time and make sure you have lots of support at home. I have so happy with my reconstruction and love the results.

    best wishes

    Sarah

Asking your Surgeons (Breast and Plastic) would probably be the best idea.

(I have no knowledge as I have chosen to do no recon.)

Bluegrass, I would definitely ask your PS. Can you send an email to the office with your question?

My PS encouraged me not to landscape prior to surgery so they knew where the natural hairline fell. It's a important landmark when determining how far down to go, and where your natural body hair is. This helps with nipple location too - I have a few soft "tummy hairs" on my nipple area now, and they grow upwards (it's sort of amusing). I'd be concerned about maybe damaging the skin so close to surgery, too
