Very large abnormal area on mammogram

Hello everyone,

I just received the radiology report for my recent mammograms and ultrasound. The initial mammogram showed 'an area of asymmetric density'. The follow up had a '5.0 x 3.6 cm patchy appearing density'. ULtrasound on that day had 'an area of echogenicity which likely correlates, however, there are similar echogenic areas elsewhere in the breast'. I'm scheduled for a stereotactic biopsy in 3 weeks.

Those dimensions are huge....how is it possible that I can't feel anything obviously abnormal? The radiogologist showed me the images, and the 'density' is pretty well defined. I know I need to wait for the biopsy, and that it doesn't have some of the characteristic features of cancer so things may be in my favor. But its so big, should I be worried about the size?

Any comments are appreciated

    Hi guys,

I just wanted to say thank you for your warm welcome. I'm feeling very alone as I haven't told anyone what's going on. Chances are it will be fine, but I am having trouble keeping bad thoughts away. Your post really helped me not feel so alone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    1. Hey!
I just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts. The waiting is so difficult. I have been there! Positive thoughts and prayers will be going to you. Please keep updated. Try to distract yourself in any way that you possibly can, and do not let your mind wander or fingers wander on Dr. Google. I know it is easier said than done.

Not sure what type of cancer that would be. I had a spiculated mass, looked like a star with spiky things coming off of it. You won't know anything until a biopsy happens. I would start cleaning my house in anticipation of a surgery. If you don't need a surgery, then you have your spring cleaning finished. Plan as though you will have a surgery and get your groceries, schedule, work in order. If it comes back negative, you are ready for the summer.
