Mammogram, dense breasts, and those nipple stickers?
Hi, everyone! I had to put off my Mammogram until I healed some from a hysterectomy. I was referred after asking my Gyno about a tiny growth coming out of my right nipple duct. I'm sure it's probably something benign.
I finally got my Mammogram Monday. The tech kept having to redo the imaging over and over on my right breast. She commented about them being very dense. I was a little concerned about that since that is the breast the growth is on.
Does anyone know if those stickers they make you put on your nipple would block the imaging from picking up something on the nipple? Because that's the whole reason I was there. I was hoping I would get to see a breast specialist so I could ask them but after the imaging, I was told I could go and my results would be mailed.
My other concern, which seems petty compared to those that actually have breast cancer, is if my results come back negative, what do I do about the bump on my nipple? Do I pursue a diagnosis to find out what it is exactly? I was kinda hoping they would want to biopsy it or remove it to be on the safe side and also because it itches like mad at times. I don't know if I should see a dermatologist or breast doc about it.
Hopefully I will get my results early next week. I'm so impatient. :-(

I'd suggest talking it over with a breast surgeon, rather then a dermatologist. A dermatologist is just going to refer you back to the breast surgeon.

KD, Maybe you should get a 3D mammo in the future, if that is not what you are already doing. Best wishes

Kaydee, it is really helpful if you stick to one thread so we can understand what you are talking about.
If anyone is trying to understand the context of KayDee'ss post (like I was) here is her original post
"I recently noticed my right nipple itching and found a small bump right on the tip protruding from the duct. After searching the web, I figure it is probably just papilloma or some other benign growth but I couldn't find any images like what I have. Also, when I was "examining" it, a little bit of brownish yellowish, sticky discharge came out. I'm pretty sure I've had that before. Wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.
I already have an appointment with my gyno but it isn't until November 15th and I originally booked that for the uterine fibroids that are making life miserable. I was supposed to have surgery over a year ago but I'm unemployed, uninsured and don't qualify for Medicaid. I guess I'm just concerned because the last thing I need is some problem with my breast, too.
A little background: from my teens to early 20s I had 5 lumpectomies(thankfully all benign), more "mutated moles" removed than I can count, and now fibroids(submucosal the problematic one) & abnormally thick endometrium. I guess the point I'm trying to make is my body likes to grow things it's not supposed to but fortunately for me, none of it has been life threatening. Sometimes, however, I feel like my luck will run out. Kinda like the "boy who cried wolf." And being uninsured makes me worry I won't catch it early. My friend's Mom got diagnosed with cancer in June and died 2 weeks later because it was too late and had spread through her body.
Anyhoo, guess I'm rambling! End post."

Thanks for the replies!
I didn't realize I would need to find my old thread and post under that one. Apologies.
