Moving from BC to Montreal - Advice Please!

Hello,

I'm Stage IV, and am on Herceptin for life. I've been doing it for the last eight years. I'm planning on moving to Montreal, and would appreciate any advice from others who are living there. In BC, all of our treatments are done through the BC Cancer Agency - you don't chose where you want to have your treatment - there is only really one option depending on where you live.

It appears that in Quebec, treatment is done in a hospital setting. How do I go about choosing a hospital? Does anyone have any recommendations? I'll need to find an oncologist. Any recommendations?

Thank you so much!

Cara

Cara - Have you been able to find a new oncologist? My PCP made the decision by referring me to the breast clinic at my hospital, and I've been pleased with my care. Here's the link below. My MO is Dr. Bouganim. Please let me know if you need any more details. Good luck with your move.

Serenity, we have the same MO:)  Also have been pleased at the Cedars Cancer Centre!

My surgeon was at St. Mary's and he did a fantastic job as well!

Whirlaway - He's nice, isn't he? Except for a few procedures, all of my cancer care has been at MUHC. I have 3 hospital cards so far! Hope that's all I'll need.

He really is nice and caring and the chemo nurses also spoke highly of him! I am now cleared for 3 months. Also have 3 hospital cards:)

Yikes - so sorry for not getting back to you ladies sooner!

I don't look on here every often. I ended up taking a trip to Montreal to figure all of this out, and learned SO much! It is a very different system than BC.

I have an oncologist now, and am set up with the Jewish Hospital.

Thank you all for chiming in and sharing your experiences!
