Painful scar on back a year after dorsal flap reconstruction

Hi, I had a double mastectomy in 2015 and had a dorsal flap reconstruction on one breast in 2016 due to complication with just an implant. The scar on my back is still very painful, sensitive and itchy one year later. My plastic surgeon says this is normal and it could take up to 2 years to heal. I feel as if there is something wrong as the pain is getting worse rather than better with time. Anyone had the same problem? I want to get a second opinion but am wondering whether to see a neurologist in case there is a nerve causing the pain. Any advice or similar cases out there? Thanks!

    Jinnybev-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO, and we're so sorry you're still experiencing pain from your reconstruction. Scars can indeed take some time to heal, but if it's still causing you this much discomfort, there's no harm in getting a second opinion. In the meantime, you might find some of these suggestions in managing scar tissue pain helpful: http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/side_effects....

We hope you get some relief soon!

I would think you definitely need a second opinion. Your scar might not begin to feel much better for awhile but I would certainly think it would not be feeling worse!

I also had lat dorsi flap procedure and while I sometimes feel like that part of my back has muscular tenderness at times, it does not cause me pain. My surgery was less than 2 years ago

Thanks for your reply - I'll be going for my checkup at the onco soon so will ask for second opinion.
