Wig shopping

I haven't started chemotherapy yet, but I will soon enough - probably in May. I'm trying to be proactive, so I want to start wig shopping. Does anyone have any suggestions? Where do you buy wigs? Online or brick & mortar store? Things to consider? I live in a semi-rural area,, and it gets HOT here in the summer, so I won't be wearing the wig all the time. I need to get some scarves (I think the pre-tied ones will be best for me) as well. Any suggestions for websites would be welcome.

By the way, I'm sorry if this topic already exists somewhere - feel free to just point me towards another thread if it already exists.

My MO gave me a written scrip for a crainial prosthesis. Took to wig shop, my insurance paid 100%.

I'm in Fl and it's hot and humid here. That wig was the worst thing I ever put on my head. I had a ball cap I had embroidered No Hair Day that I'd wear to keep from getting sun burned. Most times I went bare.

It's a personal thing, how you feel about it. If you're still working, yes, you'd want something. I did do the look good feel beautiful class, there were lots of tips for head covers.

    Best wishes.

I bought my "cranial prosthesis" at a local wig shop. I loved my wig and wore it anytime I left home for about 6 months. I never could figure out how to wear scarves--I was scared to death they would fall off! I had an array of beanies for use around the house. I never once went bald in front of my family, not even my husband.

Mustlovepoodles and Others -- in case you should ever need to know -- There are some simple ways to help keep even fairly slick/slippery weave scarves in place on one's head. A typical cotton bandana, folded into a triangle and put on (tied closely) under and its front (folded) edge folded back over the front (folded) edge of a scarf woven of smoother material, will help keep in place the smoother weave scarf worn over it. Goody hair accessories brand produces some slip-resistant elastic hairbands with silicone nubs on both the inner and outer sides -- wearing one of those under a a closely-tied-on scarf can help keep one's scarf in place.

Lovepugs77, best wishes for all your treatment to go very well for you.
