have any of you ladies taken afinitor? What was your experience with it? Sounds like my moms onc wants to start her on it. Lots of side effects listed for it. She would like to know what she can expect. Thanks!!

    Hi Jennmadd,

Thanks for posting! You're sure to get some responses here soon, though it's usually a little quiet around here on the weekends.

In the meantime, you may be interested in checking out the main Breastcancer.org site's section on Afinitor for information on what to expect when taking Afinitor as well as info on side effects.

    We hope this helps!

Hi, Jennmadd. You can find the current conversation about Afinitor on the thread called Afinitor/Aromasin 2013. (I wish it were simply called Afinitor because it is a currently active thread, and a few people are on Afinitor with a different anti-estrogen, but anyway...)

I can say that although I was a bit nervous to start Afinitor, I have been pleasantly surprised at the lack of noticeable side effects for me. My onc says it seems like a patient either gets them or she doesn't, rather than it being a matter of degree. I think the key to avoiding mouth sores is to get a prescription for dexamethasone solution to use as a mouth rinse. This is a new thing (SWISH trial). Also, your mom's onc might agree to give a lower dose the first month, to see how it goes.
