Hi all. I'm a 17 year old girl and my mom got a mammogram a couple days ago. Her doctor called today and said they found something suspicious and need to do a biopsy. Obviously we are terrified. Today started as a really good day because my mom who is blind (has been legally blind my entire life and her vision has gotten worse due to cataracts) from a birth defect got laser eye surgery for cataracts that has improved the vision in her left eye, we were rejoicing that she could see the outline of her hand, when we got the call. I just can't believe that something good finally happens and then next thing we are waiting to find out if she has breast cancer. It feels like a kick in the gut. How can I be here for her? How can i stay strong for her until we find out, or if she does have cancer? I need advice. I dont want to regret not doing something, or not being here for her. I dont want this to be about me, or to have her worry about me. I just want her to be okay. Im so confused and scared i dont even have any questions. Can anyone give me any advice or tell me something they wish they knew at the beginning? Its 3 am and i cant sleep i feel so sick with worry. Thank you to anyone who reads this

Jilly, this site requires that you be eighteen to post.

That said, don't get ahead of yourself, or make too big a deal of this right now. The vast majority of breast biopsies turn out to be benign, so it is very premature to be sick with worry. Until there is a reason to worry this should all be kept in perspective

jillybeantabby, yes we' re sorry but our web site's Terms of Use state: "Registrants must be eighteen (18) years of age or older."

Anyway, reinforcing what MelissaDallas has said, try not to worry too much till you get the results. We know it's not easy to stay away from the worst case, but many many biopsies turn out to be benign conditions as you'll learn from our article:

Wishing your mom the best of luck!
