Baking soda anyone?
Was reading about baking soda use in helping to cure cancer: http://breastcancerconqueror.com/using-baking-soda...
I'll be looking into peer-reviewed studies as well, but was curious if anyone was adding baking soda/lemon water to their daily routine to make their body more alkaline and inhospitable for cancer? Do you test your body's ph daily?

As far as I know, and I did check into the claims for baking soda way back when, you can't make your body alkaline with this method. Also, if you actually succeeded to make your body alkaline enough to kill cancer, it would kill you as well. The body has a very fine-tuned mechanism for keeping its acidity stable.
I did see one study, which involved injecting tumors directly with baking soda solution, and it showed some promise. But that is a very different approach.

Momine- Thank you for your response. My husband (who is a physician) looked at me like I was a little crazy when I brought this up. 😂 I just want to do everything I can to safely get rid of this cancer! I guess baking soda is out though.
-
MommyErin, yes, unfortunately, baking soda won't do the trick. However, diet-wise, there may be some merit in the concept of inflammatory vs anti-inflammatory foods. This appears to be fairly mainstream, and you can look up a food's inflammation index along with other nutritional info. It is not really complicated, because most of the anti-inflammatory foods are things we already know are beneficial: fatty fish, veggies, whole grains, spices etc.
I don't believe that any particular diet will keep the cancer away. But sensible, good nutrition can probably contribute by not promoting inflammation, by keeping blood sugar staple, by keeping weight healthy etc. Besides your overall health will benefit, which can never be a bad thing.
-
Not to mention that baking soda is really high sodium which would be a no-no with a sodium restricted high blood pressure diet.
-
The only thing baking soda will do is neutralize your stomach acids. I already have low acid so darned if I want to take out my digestive juices entirely.
-
baking soda may be a bit harsh, but making sure that you are not in an acidic state is pretty important.
There are as many views on this belief as there are leaves on tress but as always..all we can do is tune in and trust our instincts. Truth has a different feeling then falseness does.
So..the theory is that the reason we get cancer is because our system has become unbalanced and the ph level is now in an area of being acidic. Being to alcheline isn't good either, but being acidic is supposedly providing the perfect invironment for cancer to flourish.
Let food be thy medicine

Science soesn't have a "feel." Facts are facts
You cannot change your body's PH (without going into organ failure and/or having a heart attack & dying.)

Blood ph is buffered and stable. Extracellular and intracellular ph is not stable, and is typically acidic in a cancer tumor. Manipulation of the tumor ph may in fact be a strategy to fight against cancer. To that end, oral administration of sodium bicarbonate and other drugs that buffer and inhibit the proton pump do have an effect on cancer tumors. The idea behind sodium bicarbonate is not completely out to lunch.

While I am not suggesting anyone treat their cancer with baking soda, I am of the opinion that science is looking into the validity of the strategy of tumor ph manipulation as a cancer treatment strategy.
Everything that has been said about not being able to alter your bodies ph is something of an overstatement. Blood ph is stable because of the bicarbonate buffer system. But blood ph isn't the only environment in the human body, and cancer tumors have their own acidic microenvironment that they create and to some degree depend upon.

Since diagnosis I have increased my daily intake of lemon in various forms from salads to lemon water etc.
I am not certain about alkalinizing, it would be virtually impossible to accurately test but there are numerous general health benefits ( vit C, pectin etc) from the humble lemon. A fav at present is a ginger lemon grass and lemon concoction I drink as 'spring water'.
The greatest concern with baking soda as pointed in a post above is the sodium component.
-
Wildplaces, tell me more about this ginger, lemon, grass concoction you speak of. I drink a ton of water already and am just now starting to add lemon. I've also been reading up on Barley Grass. My 87 year old grandmother has been drinking a glass of barley green everyday for the last 25 years.
-
6-8 cm ginger peeled and sliced
2-3 stalk lemon grass white stalk chopped
8 cups of spring water
Boil 20 minutes gentle simmer - cool 30 minutes
Add honey or stevia to personaltaste plus juice of one lemon.😊
will look up barley grass thank you
