Red light therapy?

So today I went to Planet Fitness for some other reasons for my wife and I. While there and getting the tour, I was shown the red light therapy machine. This is something I've never heard of before. In the conversation with the trainer she said it stimulates vitamin D production among other things but does not have all the harmful effects (UV) of the sun or a tanning bed. She also made mention that a lot of cancer patients specifically come in and get memberships for that machine but was unsure as to why. When I got home I did some googling and did not find a lot aside from the vitamin D thing and some possibility of helping with lymphedema. I'm wondering if anyone here has any knowledge or experience with this at all and could chime in on this. We are always looking for another weapon.

Thanks

Tom

The only experience I've had with "Red Light Therapy" was about 12 yrs ago and it had nothing to do with 'humans'. A trainer at a barn I boardered a horse at for while, bought a VERY expensive Red Light Therapy unit that was supposed to 'heal' all sorts of injuries in competition horses to get them back to competition.. She charged a lot but I don't know,of any that were back at competition level after using the 'Red Light Therapy' than those who didn't spend big bucks for it.

Like I said - it was on horses for injuries - not for human issues.
