Seroma Blow out; Did it happen to you?

After my mastectomy scar revision surgery, a seroma formed under my incision. The seroma created so much pressure that it "blew out" through the surgical glue on my incision. I suddenly had what looked like blood all over my shirt. It scared me to death!

This happened the night of my surgery. I went to the ER and they glued the incision shut. It "blew out" again within 12 hours. I contacted my surgeon and she told me the incision will have to do "secondary healing." That means, I keep the area covered and clean and wait for it to heal on its own. She put in a few external stitches for my "peace of mind." The open area is about 1 1/2 inches long.

Now, it's 4 weeks later. I'm still trying to get this wound to heal, and it's driving me crazy! Serous fluid still leaks from the incision, so I change bandages several times a day. I put the bandages under an Ace bandage wrapped around my torso. The pressure keeps any fluid from accumulating and keeps it flowing out to the bandage (I just started using menstrual pads instead of gauze pads. They're cheaper). It's not a deep incision; I mean, I can't see anything past the full thickness of skin (and there are internal stitches). And it does looks like it is healing a little bit....

Has anyone else dealt with something like this? How long did it take to heal? Did you do anything special to encourage it to heal faster? I'm not scheduled to see my surgeon again until April 27th.

Yep, blew out several times, like a geyser

One time I was in Walgreens, ironically, buying bandage materials. I had bloody fluid from my under arm to my knees, and OF COURSE, I was wearing white pants. I looked like I had been stabbed.

Oh, my! MustLovePoodles! I can't imagine it happening at Walgreen's! I was horrified when mine blew out just sitting on the couch!
