Hello all,

Just joining this site after HUBBY was diagnosed a few days ago with IDC, HER2+, 1.7cm tumor (removed). Would like to hear from any MEN diagnosed with BC and their course of treatment and prognosis. We are scared but determined to fight...for ourselves and our 3 teen children.

    Dear M5english,

Welcome to the community. We are sorry for your husband's diagnosis but glad that you reached out. You may want to check out the Male Breast Cancer Forum. You might get more attention there from other men. Let us know if we can be of help. the MOds

There are just a few men active on BCO, and I'm one of them. You can post your questions in this thread and I'll try to help. I've linked up with around 20 men with this disease and learned a fair bit over the past three years.

You can see my diagnosis and treatment below this post and I would encourage you to keep hubby's diagnosis and treatments up to date in the profile section so we here know what's happening.

It's a very daunting time for you both, that I know, but be sure ask absolutely anything and me or someone else here will endeavour to answer your questions and relate our experiences.

PS. You are welcome to message me if you like.

Thank you so very much for your response. I am a night Nurse and work Sun-Wed, so that is the reason for my delayed response.

Well, hubby has gotten his EKG done and will have his port placed on Monday. Planning to start TCHP on Thursday. Taxol, Cyto-something, and targeted treatment Heceptin and Perjeta. He is HER2+, right breast. We should get results soon if BRACA+.

HAve told friends, family , kids and church. Feeling the love and prayers from them, coast to coast. Feeling lifted to start this unexpected journey. So many people have told us their survival stories. Praying that we are one also. So happy to hear yours!

I will be asking more questions as i have them, but for now, we are still in shock. I am hoping that treatment won't make him too sick and weak. He is a teacher and Coach and would like to stay in daily routine as much as possible.

    Thank you again.

It's great to hear that treatment is starting. Following chemo, is surgery planned? There's now evidence that exercise after each dose of chemo helps recovery so, if hubby can handle it, don't be afraid of light aerobics or even just taking regular walks. The anti nausea drugs taken at the time of chemo will help combat fatigue.

Be sure to post your progress here as this community is always willing to help and share their experiences and tips.
