Im going swimming in a hotel pool this weekend for the first time. Do I need to wear compression in the water?

Anything else I should know??

Thanks

Anyone swim in a lake or ocean? I hope to do that this summer!!

no and that's the beauty about water. It acts like a compression garment. If you walk in water above your shoulders it's like wearing a full body compression garment. Enjoy but don't overtax your arms. Be gentle. Have fun!

I have always been told to not wear garments (sleeve/glove) while swimming (or getting wet). Also not to put a damp set on as being wet affects the material and how it 'works'.

I'm not a lot into swimming a lot - especially pools because I don't like all the chemicals in them - but I do a fair bit of swimming in lakes/streams during the summer when it's warm enough and we're out camping, fishing and/or boating/canoeing. I haven't been in salt water since LE but I would if I was ever near any. (live near the Black Hills over a 1,000 miles from any salt water other than the Great Salt Lake)

Just had a thought - if you normally wear garments and swimming outside - be very vigilante to keep plenty of "waterproof" sunscreen slathered on at all times and renew as recommended. Wearing garments 'all day' has protected you'd skin from the sun daily so it would be very easy to burn quickly and don't want to get a burn.

Also not only when in 'natural' waters (lake/creek/stream/saltwater/etc.) but also in 'chlorinated' water (pool/water park/etc.) be vary vigilante for the possibility of infection with even the smallest scrape, cut. Can only speak for myself - I've had several scrapes/cuts for swimming but never had any hint of infection. I do not use antibiotics but am very diligent with using H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) liberally. It works for me but some have to use antibiotics from the 'gitgo'.

I've heard the same advice as above. I swim a lot, enough to have screwed up and forgotten to take my sleeve off more than once. Nothing terrible happened, but it's really hard to get it off when it's wet and it feels all wrong as soon as you're out of the water. Also, I'm sure the chlorine, when it happened in a pool, wasn't good for the material.
