Hi all, my new sisters (didn't wish to meet you this way).Last year when I turned 50 and AFTER my birthday mammogram (thank you very much) revealed Birads 1 - no suspicious lesions I had a mastoplexty (breast lifts) and augmentation to get back my youthful full look. I had breast fed both my daughter and my breasts were pretty much skin and nipples that drooped.  Anyhow about 3 months after the surgery I noted a lump in my right breast at 10 oclock. This could not be a cancer lump, I thought, had to be either scar tissure from the breast augumentation or fibrocyst as I had had loads of them in past.  So carried on my merry way until last fall when I noticed this lump seem to have grown a bit.  Now during those months my brain was tell me "go get this checked out! your luck it will be cancer and you will have waited too long!" Ignored my inner thoughts and carried on until after Christmas holidays and a lovely trip to South Korea to visit my dauther who is teaching there and then a couple of weeks in florida. So called my nurse practitioner when I got back in February and had a mammogram March 6- then u/s and biopsy immediately. The radiologist told me right away she thought it was IDC. Anyhow biopsy came back just as she predicted 4 days later.

I contacted my old PS and he felt that the augmentation push out the IDC into mammogram view and into a palpable lump which was not discovered until after the surgery.

My question is, anyone else go through similar?  If I have reconstruction will it be easier as I already have an implant there?   (not sure if having a mastectomy or lumpectomy yet still waiting for that news)

Thanks for the support!

Hi Tpralph. We are also sorry you have to be here. Stick with us, though, and you will learn a great deal, even have some laughs here, and have our support through your breast cancer experience and survival.

I understand the customary procedures for breast reconstruction with implants are more complicated than for augmentation with implants. Here is our Forum section on Breast Reconstruction, where you can learn a great deal about the procedures for reconstruction.
