Endometrial Cancer

Options

I am about six and a half years post BC and all treatment (surgery, chemo, radiation, more surgery) and just received an endometrial cancer diagnosis. I won't have the stage and prognosis until the hysterectomy.

I have faithfully watched my diet and taken my Femara. I am just wondering if anyone else has been on Femara and developed endometrial cancer. If so, did the doc change your medication?

I am, frankly, feeling shell-shocked since the gyno who did the D&C reassured me that it wasn't cancer. Oops. The path report said otherwise.

Thanks,

Patsy

Oh no! That is terrible news. I've heard Tamoxifen can be a culprit but I don't know about Femara. Crossing my fingers and toes that a hysterectomy will get rid of everything without any other treatment.I had a open complete hyster four weeks ago and I'm doing great. So sorry for the nasty surprise. :(

I am 4 1/2 years in taking Tamoxifen and started spotting. After some probing found polyps and a biopsy done no abnormal results. Then came the D & C to get rid of the polyps and then came the Endometrial cancer DX. Hysterectomy coming up in a few weeks. Hoping all is contained so no other treatment necessary. I don't understand how they keep drugs on the market that are known cancer causers!!

Hi I'm premenstrual and been on tamoxifen for 7 years. I was diagnosed with dcis in Feb 2010 and had lumpectomy and radiation. I have had periods all throughout but now having very heavy painful periods and painful sex . when examined by doctor , she said I have endometrial thickening of cervix and referred to gynee. She said try not to worry but can't help but worry that it's something bad.

I was on Tamoxifen for a while, so I hope you don't mind if I share a few comments.

Jt72, I hope it will help you to worry less when I tell you that my docs said the small risk of endometrial cancer from tamoxifen seems to be for post-menopausal women. The monthly shedding of the lining (periods) seems to protect premenopausal women.

All the drugs carry risks, and it is always a weighing of risks vs. benefit. In the case of tamoxifen, the doctor asks whether the chance of a bc recurrence is greater than the chance of endometrial cancer. Unfortunately, a few people will fall on the wrong side of the statistics, but they are all we have to go on.

Also, just as a general note, there are other causes of endometrial cancer. For example, some women have a genetic mutation that increases their chances of getting it. Fortunately, the hysterectomy is usually curative.

Patsy, 2FUN, farmerlucy, and iatigger, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this additional diagnosis and I hope all goes smoothly from now on.
