Confusing results
Hello everyone!
I have had a mass for about a year, but the past 4 months it has started growing rapidly. My mam and ultrasound were worrisome and my breast is dimpling and red/purple slightly and have a 4cm bumpy mass that is painless. Docs said they wanted to do an excisiinal biopsy, but changed their mind and did core needle biopsy 3 samples (without ultrasound guidance, just by hand feel) and the results came back as no cancer in the 3 samples, but they don't know exactly what it is. He said the lab is calling it inflammation and acute mastitis.
However, I had mastitis when I was pregnant with my daughter before and my breast went from normal to feverish, hot, bright red, and huge within 5 days and I had to have a drainage tube put in to drain the fluid. He said if i waited longer, its would have been deadly. This is 4-5 months of a mass and its the same doctor!
I am not currently pregnant (in fact I was on my cycle when I got my biopsy 2 days ago) and the doctor said it was a solid mass no fluid or puss.
He wants me to take antibiotics and if they don't help, he wants me to call him and to do "a bigger biopsy."
I'm quite frustrated and don't know what to do.
If the antibiotics don't help should I call after 3 days or wait a full 14 days of taking them?

hmm , if the biopsy says acute mastitis, perhaps it is.
any chance of a second opinion?
-
Yeah. If mastitis is solid tissue and doesn't always have fever and pain it could be. That's just not what it was like previously, so I'm not sure. I went to my online portal to view the results and they didn't put them on there, so I'm not sure if there were any inflammatory cells or not. I can't get a second opinion because all these test are coming out of pocket because the clinic I was going to referred me to this surgeon. I'll just take the antibiotics and hope for the best and just wait. This is just frustrating because its been several months on trying to get something done and they didn't even do the excision like they said they would. I just want it gone 😩

no doubt! Can see why you are confused. Doesn't Sound like mastitits however the pathology written on the lab is there.
Ya so take the antibiotics - wont be long and if that doesn't help you go back! Hopefully it clears it!

If you don't have an official dx of breast cancer, you might try posting this in the thread in the "not diagnosed but worried" board for better results. Or perhaps in the "benign breast conditions" thread too. I know you are concerned, but women that post here have a confirmed dx of breast cancer, so you might get more responses posting in other places, too. I hope your condition gets better soon!
