Herceptin for Triple positive mets
Hi,
I have had mets since 2013. 7 small areas on my bones and 2 lymph nodes in my chest. I just had a transbronchial needle aspiration biopsy done at the Cleveland Clinic one the nodes. I am now Triple Positive. I just finished 7 months of weekly taxol. My oncologist is going to start me on Herceptin only. I am confused as to why he is not putting me on any hormone blockers, I have had aromasin, femara, in the past. I had progression on femara. Anyone have any answers? Could this buy me some years?
Thank you,
Lisa S

How do I get people to respond?
-
Hi Lisajo6, OK, I am not very knowledgeable as others so I hope you get some good responses. I am also triple positive. The gold standard for triple positive is Taxotere, Herceptin and Perjeta along with Zometa and Zoladex or something else to shut down your ovaries to reduce estrogen production and some kind of bone builder like Zometa. This usually lasts until the cancer is stable. For me, it was 9 months, so I got the THP infusion every 3 weeks for 9 months. My MO then put me on Tamoxifen which is a hormone blocker, Herceptin and Perjeta as well as the zoladex and zometa. I only get the zometa every 3 months now instead of every 6 weeks. I've been on this for a little over a year now and am stable. I feel pretty good. It does seem unusual that you are not on an AI or perjeta. Ususally perjeta is given for at least the first year with Herceptin. You might want to ask why? Were you not triple positive before? I'm sure others who are much more knowledgeable will be along to offer some advice. Try not to worry. Dana

bumping

I was not triple positive originally. I was ER+ PR+ Her2-. I finished 7 months of weekly taxol. It did not take care of my two medistinal lymph nodes which are active. I dont know how to bump.

I just saw this, you should be on Herceptin and Prejeta, that is the new protocol. AND... I agree about hormonals. I am a triple +++ also.
By the way I had my ovaries out when I was first dx with mets so there were more hormonals I could take.
My old oncologist recently retired and my new oncologist wanted to do herceptin and prejeta alone. My tumor markers slowly started to rise. Back on a hormonal and after 6 weeks they fell 10 points!
I would ask you doctor, or get a new one. Seriously.
I am going on 9 years with mets.

Hi Janis,
Do you think I should ask about ovaries out again. My onco has said start THP THENhormonal to follow. They are kinda thinking that chemo will put me in to menopause, maybe it's not possible to do both at same time?
Thanks for such positive posts.
