So I had a mammogram last Wednesday

At my appointment I had a breast exam by a nurse, then the mammogram , told to wait so the radiologist could read it before I left, they called me back for more pic's on the left breast and then I had to wait again. then the radiologist wanted an emergency ultra sound....he performed it and then showed me on the screen....I have a mass and a cyst! He told me the cyst has fluid and not worried, but the mass is solid and it's suspicious. Measures 5.7mm x 5mm

I go for a Biopsy on April 3rd.

Of course, I am worried as breast cancer is high in my family, heck Cancer in general is high in my family. Most of my dads siblings (including him) died of cancer. (Breast, liver, lung).

My mom has 2 brothers diagnosed with C, one died last year and one was given 13-18 months at Christmas.

So I'm worried but trying to remain positive.

Families having cancer in general is not necessarily an indication that something genetic is going on in your family. To a great extent, cancers tend to be a function of aging-we used to die of heart attacks, now people live long enough to die of cancer instead. It is when very specific cancers occur in families, and often at young ages that it tends to raise suspicion. An aunt having breast cancer at 65 or seventy is not the same thing as your mom having breast cancer at 35. Liver and lung cancers tend to be life-style or occupational exposure caused (this is a generality-not always.)

Try not to worry too much yet. The fact that it is right next to a cyst may be a good indication that it is just a benign fibroadenoma. Better than 80% of Bi-Rads 4 rated areas on imaging are benign on biopsy.

Try not to worry. 80 percent of biopsies are benign . I just found out my mass with vascularity (Birad 4) was simply a fibroadenoma. I was so scared when I got the call for a biopsy. But this site and the boards really helped ease some of my fears! Take care
